About Southridge Academy
Southridge Academy began with a shared frustration—and a shared hope.
Heidi spent years teaching within the traditional school system, pouring her heart into students who didn’t quite fit the mold. They were bright, curious, intense, creative—what she affectionately calls her “spicy” students. Many were neurodiverse. Many learned differently. And too often, Heidi felt her hands were tied by systems that left little room for flexibility, creativity, or true individual support.

She knew these students were capable of incredible things, especially when learning finally clicked. Watching that lightbulb moment—when confidence replaces frustration—was life‑changing, not just for the student, but for her as an educator. Eventually, Heidi made the difficult decision to step away, determined to build something better.

At the same time, Rob was building his career in hockey—as both a player and a coach. While competition and performance mattered, what drove Rob most was connection. He believed that great teams aren’t built by treating players the same, but by understanding each athlete’s strengths, challenges, and motivations.
His focus was always on creating cohesive teams where every player felt valued, trusted, and empowered to contribute.
When Heidi and Rob found themselves working together—Rob coaching and Heidi managing—they quickly realized they were asking the same question from different angles:
Why do kids have to choose? Why should students have to sacrifice academic success to pursue hockey, or give up their passion for sport to survive school?
That question became the foundation of Southridge Academy.
Together, they envisioned a learning environment where students are truly known—where neurodiverse learners are supported rather than sidelined, where academics are flexible yet rigorous, and where young athletes can pursue their hockey dreams without burning out or falling behind in the classroom.
Southridge Academy exists because Heidi and Rob believe children thrive when they are supported as whole people. It is a place where learning looks different by design, strengths are celebrated, and students are given the tools, confidence, and freedom to succeed—both in school and beyond.
