Rob Churcher
Rob has spent his life in rinks and classrooms, shaping young athletes with a mix of elite playing experience, proven coaching leadership, and a strong educational foundation.
Born on April 20, 1978, in Victoria, BC, Rob played his minor hockey and Triple-A hockey on Vancouver Island before advancing to Junior A in the RMJHL and beyond. His dedication to the game eventually took him overseas, where he played professionally in the British National League with the Paisley Pirates. Standing 6'0", shooting left, and playing center, Rob was known for his hockey IQ, physical edge, and leadership.
After his playing career, Rob transitioned into coaching—bringing his passion for athlete development into the youth hockey world. He has coached at high-performance levels including U15 AA and U18 AA, and spent two seasons as a Head Coach with Bow Valley Hockey. Across all his roles, Rob has developed a reputation for creating structured, competitive, and supportive training environments that build confidence and results.
Now, as one of the founders of the Southridge Academy, Rob leads programs from U9 to U18, combining elite on-ice instruction with classroom-based character development and athletic education. Parents value his ability to balance discipline, fun, and long-term athlete growth.
Rob’s leadership extends beyond hockey. Together with his wife, he owns Early Start Learning Center, a respected early-learning and childcare program rooted in development, structure, and community. Prior to launching Southridge Stars, Rob founded Five Star Sports, a performance training company that helped hundreds of young athletes improve their strength, skills, and confidence in a wide variety of fun sports.
A certified BCRPA personal trainer and former lacrosse athlete, Rob brings a multi-sport mindset to hockey development. He understands how athletic versatility, conditioning, and proper training habits contribute to long-term success—on the ice and in life.
Above all, Rob is committed to shaping strong athletes and even stronger people. His mission is simple: create an environment where young players learn, grow, compete, and love coming to the rink every day.
