Premier Academy 3-Day Program:

A Balanced Pathway for Learning and Sport

Our 3-Day Program is designed for families who want an alternative to the traditional 5-day school model while ensuring their child receives a complete, high-quality education that aligns with Alberta curriculum standards.

Students attend Southridge Academy three full days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) per week, where they receive personalized, certified instruction through our homeschool-supported model.

Academic learning is delivered in small groups with individualized pacing, ensuring every student meets grade-level expectations while benefiting from tailored support in reading, writing, math, executive functioning, and metacognition.

The remaining two days per week are flexible learning days that allow athletes to focus on training, recovery, travel, or enrichment activities—while still supported by weekly learning plans, guided assignments, and teacher check-ins.

This structure allows student-athletes to:

  • Maintain full academic progress without compromise

  • Balance school and sport in a healthy, sustainable way

  • Develop independence, discipline, and time-management skills

  • Thrive in a nurturing environment that understands the demands of competitive athletics

Our 3-day program ensures that both educational needs and athletic goals are met—helping young athletes grow as learners, competitors, and confident individuals.

Why Homeschooling Works for Students with LDs, ADHD, and Busy Schedules.

At Southridge Academy, we understand that not all learners fit into a traditional classroom — especially when they’re balancing learning differences and athletic or extracurricular commitments. Homeschooling, when done intentionally and with the right structure, can help students with learning disabilities and ADHD thrive both academically and personally.

Personalized Learning Pace and Path

Every student learns differently — and that’s exactly what homeschooling allows for.

  • Students can move at their own pace, spending extra time on areas that need strengthening and advancing quickly through what comes naturally.

  • For students with learning disabilities or ADHD, this flexibility prevents the frustration that often comes from trying to “keep up” with a rigid classroom timeline.

  • Personalized pacing allows for mastery-based learning — students don’t move on until they truly understand.

Result: More confidence, less stress, and steady academic growth.

Flexible Scheduling for Busy Athletes

For young athletes, practice, travel, and competitions often conflict with a traditional school day.

  • Homeschooling lets families design a schedule that supports training and recovery while still prioritizing academics.

  • Lessons can be completed around practices, on the road, or in shorter learning blocks — when the brain is most alert.

  • This flexibility reduces burnout and ensures students can excel both on the ice and in the classroom.

Result: Balanced routines that promote consistency, sleep, and performance in both areas.

Focus on Executive Function Skills

Students with ADHD or learning disabilities often need explicit instruction in how to learn — not just what to learn.
Homeschooling allows time to build and strengthen executive function skills, such as:

  • Planning and organization

  • Time management

  • Focus and self-regulation

  • Goal setting and reflection

These skills are the same ones that help athletes succeed: staying focused, handling setbacks, and preparing with intention.

Result: Students build lifelong learning and performance habits.

Lower Stress and More Meaningful Learning

Large class sizes, constant transitions, and rigid expectations can overwhelm students who process information differently.
Homeschooling creates a calmer learning environment where students can:

  • Learn without distractions or performance pressure

  • Receive individualized feedback and positive reinforcement

  • Engage in subjects that connect to their interests — like science through sports or math through performance stats

Result: Improved motivation, reduced anxiety, and a genuine love of learning.

Integrating Sport into Education

At Southridge, learning isn’t separate from sport — it’s connected.
Homeschooling allows for:

  • Cross-curricular projects (e.g., calculating shooting percentages in math, journaling about teamwork in language arts, exploring nutrition in science)

  • Learning through real-world experiences — tournaments, travel, and team collaboration become part of education

  • Recognition of athletic discipline as a key component of student growth

Result: A well-rounded education that values both academic and athletic achievement.

Family and Mentor Partnership

Homeschooling brings families into the learning process.
At Southridge, parents, coaches, and teachers work together to create a 360° support system:

  • Consistent communication on progress and goals

  • Shared tools for behavior regulation and study skills

  • Alignment between academic expectations and athletic development

Result: Stronger relationships and clearer pathways to student success.

“They understand student-athletes in a way few educators do. Heidi and her team balance elite training demands with high-quality academics, using proven methods that build confidence, focus, and resilience.
Our child is performing better on the ice and in the classroom because Heidi knows how to support the whole athlete—mind, body, and learning. Her expertise has truly elevated both their education and their athletic development.”
